Light in the Darkness was the theme for our Advent Carol Service in the beautiful surroundings of St Mary’s Easton. Our Director of Music David Truslove, in his last opportunity to lead our scratch choir, really brought something amazing out of our local voices. Thank you so much to him and the singers and to John Dover the organist. ‘Adam lay bounden’ by Boris Ord ‘I sing of a maiden’ by Lennox Berkeley ‘There is no rose of such virtue’ by Graham Ellis and ‘in the Bleak Mid Winter’ by Harold Darke peppered our readings and carols.
Revd Rebeccca Fardell gave a series of reflections on the subject of light: light after darkness in creation, Christians as light in the world and Jesus as Light of the world. We drew on her experience in the tunnels below Maastricht of a total lack of light. And after each reflection we had an opportunity to consider how light changes and transforms us and those around us.
Thank you particularly to David Truslove and his choir and to everyone involved in this wonderful reflective evening service.
And there is another choir which has been working hard in the last few weeks to get ready – the choir of Itchen Abbas Primary School who will be singing at our All Age Service next Sunday for the Christingle – at 4pm at St John’s Itchen Abbas – please do be there!
ps Sorry Neil you seem to be behind a pillar….
